I Tried to Plant Dye Green with Weld + Iron | Does it really work?
Переглядів 42 тис.2 роки тому
Welcome to this new video where I tried to achieve a green plant dye without blue. Instead I wanted to try something I've heard alot about, namely dye a fabric yellow and then add iron... I thought it never would work, but then I thought, why not give it a try? The video is a reupload from march 2021, due to technical complications. FINALLY the second part of the blue dress sewing adventure is here! As I mentioned in the video, nothing in the process of making this has been easy. Everything from sewing to recording and editing have been going wrong and I became so unhappy with the result in the end so I was on my way to throw the whole project in the trash bin. However, after talking to you on instagram, I decided in the e...
How to Sew a Basic Skirt | Historical - Vintage - Modern

Welcome to this little fun video I had as a cozy summer project. I have also recieved many questions about skirts, both vintage, historical and modern, so now I felt it was time to show you one method. The fact is, you can almost use the same method for all of them if you want. Naturally, certain changes can be needed, such as material, length, width, closing and hemming method. But the basics ...

Outstanding work!😀
Hi Elin Outstanding!!! I don't know if you are still viewing contents but I wanted to write something in case. I just found your site as I was looking for this particular information and ...as I type with tear-filled eyes...I wanted to thank you so much for your video. As a weaver I greatly appreciate and concur with @renaebettenhausen3611's comments. I have thought of working-class clothing a long time, and have fumbled through making a few pieces that were simple, saved as much fabric as possible, and managed with the handwoven fabric I had on hand, ripping and restitching again and again...and being a larger size means more fabric needed :). Of course, many times I have to wait months or years to finish something, but living simply that is just part of it :). I am a very very basic sewist and have no desire to make elaborate clothing, but very simple items that are respectful of all the hours and resources needed to make them. What you said about borrowing or ripping from a past item...I do that so often! I've been a bit embarassed to live like this and your video has given me a renewed joy and inspiration...rather than feeling embarassed...to rejoice that I can do this. thank you so much!
Hola.. soy colombiana y no hablo inglés.. pero me encanta tu falda . Me gustaría saber cuáles son las medidas y que tela utilizaste. Quedaría muy agradecida 😊
Stunning!
Your production qualities are amazing. Super work.
Beautiful work.
So Beautiful! I will making one - but with a machine 😅 I loved looking you sewed this by hand. It looks awesome
Love your videos!!! You do such a wonderful job of the filming and editing, and entertaining. So interesting and artsy on their own, let alone the content--which is fantastic! Thank you for taking all the time to put these together.
awesome! Love that this worked so well! I have heard this working with onion skin as well. Iron with the onion skins. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I will now.
Really enjoy your videos. You show the entire project even with mistakes. Thinking as perhaps the ladies of the time may have. Love the beautiful scenery and you remind me of a ‘wood nymph’😊. Great job. Roni
I love watching your videos while I sew, even though living here in the states there’s not much of a medieval reenacting scene. I do 18th and 19th century sewing and re-enactments. But I’m planning on making a Tudor era working class kirtle soon and while your dress is a different century, the information you had on the 16th century here is giving me a great starting point! Love your videos and your immense talent, both in sewing and cinematography
I thoroughly enjoyed your video.
Yours vídeos are my therapy.
I really like the slimming effect and bum shaping that you get from the pleating technique that you used...I would like to see how you divide your skirt...do you use more in the back?
I love the idea of the saving piece. Brilliant.
Hey Elin. «Dyed with madder» I am Norwegian, but I can’t seem to translate madder into Norwegian. Are you by any chance swedish (due to your last name)and can translate for me?😊
I enjoyed this so much!
Question, would cotton be a good option? I overheat quite easily in certain fabrics, so I don’t know what to choose fabric wise to avoid it.
Floofy cat! I want to cuddle with them.
Var i Stockholm ligger tygbutiken som du besöker i videon? :)
New to your channel and now I will binge watch, beautiful skirt, girl and scenery ❤❤❤
Oh my this reminds of a book im reading right now! same year too! ❤
I am new to your channel but i love your work! ❤
Hello... I hope you be really well and I wish you return here... best wishes... 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🙏💯👍
I enjoy seeing techniques used that I have not seen before. I had not seen the type of button making you did, nor the weaving. Very interesting and informative. The sides of the hood turned forward to block the face could be very practical working in the garden in summer and tending animals in winter. Where to put a hood on my very long list of projects I want to do...
I simply cannot imagine how an average working woman of that time could stand wearing all those layers of clothes and still be able to hand wash laundry, cook, cut wheat, garden and just not sweat to death doing it all! Most working classes wore wool , even in summer! Linen and cotton was hardly utilized or affordable to them and only more so in later centuries. Truly a well done and presented video!
I like the outfit on you
I just started making my first tunic… and have had to rip out all the seams because I didn’t measure properly, nor did I add enough width for seam allowance or ease… I measured at the shoulder, and not the bust… won’t make that mistake again! ❤ listening to you while I rework the stitching has been wonderful
Thanks. It was very interesting but you need to brush up on your spelling and grammar and sometimes the writing wasn't very clear with a pale background
I love, love, LOVE that you are focusing on the clothes of ordinary working people. So often we only hear about the wealthier classes (understandably, as those clothes took less wear and were therefore preserved better, and also they were more likely to be captured in paintings) its wonderful to see what our ancestors might have worn!
For the safety purposes. Don't do it inside because of the fumes. You said it yourself and then did the whole video in the kitchen where your parents were moving around and filming without any masks. It is also toxic when it is hot and the fumes can still be around.
The color actually comes AFTER it is oxidised by the oxygen in the air. You cannot oxidise by getting more air in the water. The process in the water is reduction. It needs to be oxygen less. So let the cloth in the water for longer period of time. And let it air dry outside and not in the shower with closed windows. Also if you dye three clothes in the same dye the third one will be the least dyed because after every round the color pigments are less in quantity.
I'm homesick for this life I've never known in a place I've never been.
I hope you will make new videos and tutorials on how to sew historical clothes) I really like it.
This video was so unexpectedly funny and tense.
I absolutely love the dress and the editing ☺️ beautiful photography! The only part I don't quite understand is how exactly you take in the side seams at the waist when the gores have already been sewn in. Wouldn't that mess it up and end in a weird dart kind of situation at the hips?
Elin - I know its been a while since these videos, but I dont have social media and wanted to inform you that an Etsy shop called Deryapattern is using that photo of you in the full kirtle against the fence to sell a "Renaissance Medieval dress pattern." They have cropped off your face but I recognized it. I think they also photoshopped the bodice a bit. I hope you can get it taken down! Hope you are doing well! I always loved your videos, you are an extremely talented filmmaker!
I think the blue obtained is very pretty.
How do you get your triangles to be actual triangles and not lumpy, hunchbacked, sort-of-triangles?
Wow, this video captured and truly inspired me to start my own garment making adventure! 🎉
" SHELL'S CLAMS AND COCKLES " !! " SHELLFISH CLAMS AND COCKLES " !!🤗😅
Great video!!!❤
You made a lovely job of your outfit, you are so easy to watch and listen to
I love the different stitches you used. It turned out lovely
I love your resourcefulness and envy your access to linen, which we don't have a lot of here in North America. I had a linen suit when I was a young woman I kept for job interviews. I loved it.
I've never dyed with woad but I have seen a woman preparing the leaves in a deferent manner into little balls like to sell them for market in a medieval way . but its been a long time since I've seen it and unfortunately I cant find it here on UA-cam
piecing is period ! it looks well done ! don't forget some braes for your underwear bottoms !
